According to the report, SiMa.ai has secured a $150 million Series C investment, which pushes its cumulative funding to $500 million. The company’s valuation is now assessed at $1.45 billion. The round was co-led by Fidelity Management & Research Company and Amplify, with participation from notable investors including Alter Venture Partners, Dell Technologies Capital, Maverick Capital, +ND Capital, Point72, and StepStone Group. New entrants to the cap table include AllianceBernstein, Baron Capital, J.P. Morgan, and the State of Michigan.
Mike Dauber, a General Partner at Amplify, stated that the company’s vision to design silicon centered around software is a clear and innovative approach to physical AI architecture. Scott Darling, President of Dell Technologies Capital, described SiMa.ai as a key silicon supplier for next-generation distributed physical AI infrastructure, noting that its platform offers the software agility and compute performance required for computer vision and autonomy.
SiMa.ai intends to deploy these funds to accelerate the expansion of 'Palette Neat,' which it describes as the industry’s first agentic software environment for physical AI. The company also plans to invest in next-generation hardware development, aiming for a compute performance of 1000 dense TOPS. By the first half of 2028, SiMa.ai expects to launch a product lineup including machine learning IP, chiplets, and System-on-Chips (SoCs) to serve mid-to-high-end drones, humanoid robots, automotive ADAS, and AI-based cockpits.
Context
Physical AI refers to the integration of artificial intelligence with physical hardware, such as robots and autonomous vehicles, to enable real-world interaction and decision-making. SiMa.ai positions itself as a specialized silicon provider for this sector, distinguishing its approach by prioritizing software-defined architectures over traditional hardware-first designs. This strategy aligns with a broader industry trend where companies are seeking more flexible and scalable computing solutions for complex robotic tasks.
Robot's take
The $1.45 billion valuation signals strong investor confidence in SiMa.ai’s specialized niche. The focus on 1000 dense TOPS is a significant technical benchmark that could determine its competitiveness in high-performance robotics. However, the success of the 'Palette Neat' software environment will be critical; if it fails to provide a seamless migration path for existing customers, the hardware advantages may be underutilized. It is not yet clear how SiMa.ai will differentiate its silicon from established automotive and industrial chipmakers in the crowded 2028 market.
