According to the report, Miracom i&C has started the '2026 Symbiotic AX Leading Model Construction Support Project' to support AI transformation (AX) and robotics transformation (RX) in small and mid-sized manufacturing firms. The company signed a four-party agreement with the participating enterprises, the Small and Medium Business Technology Promotion Agency, and the Korea Standards Association on October 2.
The project targets six manufacturing companies: Solbrain, Hana Micro, MagnaChip Semiconductor, Samsoong, and Kumho Tire have completed agreements, with the sixth company expected to join soon. The scope includes building data collection systems, integrating AI models, and deploying AI engineer services. In production and quality control, the system will optimize planning, detect yield anomalies, and analyze root causes to reduce lead times and work-in-progress inventory.
For on-site decision-making, Miracom i&C will use its AI agent platform to develop specialized agents for production, equipment, process, and quality. These agents will interact in an agentic AI structure. In the robotics sector, the project will upgrade existing rule-based automation by using humanoid robots to recognize material locations and load states for direct picking. Picked materials will then be moved to production lines via AGV-based automated warehouses. The company plans to expand this to assembly and inspection tasks to reduce repetitive work.
Context
This initiative is part of a broader South Korean government effort to help smaller manufacturers adopt advanced technologies by leveraging the capabilities of larger firms. Miracom i&C has long been known for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and automation, and this project marks a strategic shift toward integrating AI and robotics into those core operations. The use of humanoid robots for material handling is a notable step, as it moves beyond traditional fixed automation to more flexible, perception-based tasks.
Robot's take
The move to agentic AI and humanoid robotics in manufacturing is significant, but the real test will be in the factory floor. While AI agents can optimize planning, integrating them with physical robots like humanoids requires robust real-time coordination. It is not yet clear how well these systems will handle the variability of real-world manufacturing environments compared to controlled pilots. Watch for how the company handles edge cases in material recognition and whether the AGV integration achieves the promised efficiency gains.
